Demand response is key to the future of renewable energy | MIT Technology Review

Some encouraging news is coming from the USA where demand response seems to be gaining some traction, though still cautiously. The main gain is coming from less capacity for generation of peak power. It seems the potential is there but mobilizing it takes effort that is different from the normal reaction of utilities: building more power plants. The main sources for DR seem to be commercial and industrial (which is somewhat surprising, though the managed power budgets permit investments, and there are companies targeting this space like EnerNOC), and HVAC in the south (Texas).
